The WNY Herp Society will have a change of venue for the August meeting, which will take place at Stiglmeier Park, on Losson Road in Cheektowaga. We will meet up at Shelter Number 7, as seen on the map of the Park.
We invite you to bring your friends and family out for an evening of fun with a Nature Scavenger Hunt! We’ll be exploring how to use field marks to identify local plants and animals, and then break up into teams and go on a quest for natural treasures.
If you enjoy the virtual “field herping” of Pokemon Go, you’ll love searching the beautiful trails at Stiglmeier Park for reptiles, amphibians, wildflowers, leaves, insects, and rocks to check off of your Scavenger Hunt list.
After spending some time out in the Park, we’ll gather back together to compare each team’s finds!
If you have nature field guide books or phone apps, feel free to bring them with you, and don’t forget your field herping tools, camera, bug spray and water to drink.
In case of inclement weather, please check on our Facebook event page for any change in plans. The meeting will be held rain or shine, unless severe weather is predicted.
The Nature Scavenger Hunt is a great outdoor activity for kids of all ages. WNY Herp Society meetings are free and open to the public, and families with children are always welcome. We hope you’ll come out and join us as we explore the beautiful world around us!
