June 2016

For our June meeting, the WNY Herp Society welcomes Spencer Thomas, of Spencer’s Animal Encounters. Spencer will be discussing turtle and tortoise husbandry, including diet and nutrition, and heat and UVB lighting.

In addition to turtles and tortoises, Spencer will be bringing a variety of the exotic animals that are part of his Animal Encounters program. Spencer has multiple certifications to keep and exhibit exotic animals, so this will be a great opportunity to learn more about how to apply and qualify for USDA and DEC licensing and permits.

You can visit Spencer’s Animal Encounters on Facebook for more information about his unique menagerie!

Since spring and warmer temperatures have finally arrived, don’t forget that visitors are welcome to bring their own healthy herps and invertebrates to show off at the meeting. If you would like to bring your animals, they should beĀ in good health, parasite free, and in compliance with applicable local, NYS and Federal laws.

You must transport them in a safe and suitable container, carrier or snake bag, and have control of them at all times. Please take a moment to review our guidelines for Bringing Herps to Events, and help us ensure that all of our visitors, human or herp, enjoy a positive experience.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 9th, starting at 6:45 pm, at the Julia Boyer Reinstein Library, 1030 Losson Road, Cheektowaga 14227. WNY Herp Society meetings are free and open to the public, and families with children are welcome to attend! For more details, you can visit our Monthly Meetings page.
